Some people think it's just enough to get "Top of the line" computer (as cheap as possible) and all other stuff will work by itself.
#Home studio computer driver#
It could be driver issues, Windows issues, the DAW issues with this particular interface, etc. No matter which way you choose, to build a "barebone" or get a prebuilt one, you will still need to do such "Whole System" tests, because that's the point where you actually go to the "Audio Workstation" business.Īnd, if you won't get your desired 2ms latency, it may be not DELL's fault at all. If you're not happy, you just pack that computer, ship it back and get another one. You get it, you have few days for testing all your other components AS ONE SYSTEM, including audio interfaces, latency, multiple DAWs, etc. Would I be able to reach as low as 2ms input 4ms output latency with those specs on top of a RME babyface, without any clipping(cracks/pops)?Well - here goes an advantage of buying "ready to go" computer. Most computers are fine.īTW what I'm mainly aiming for is a low latency response for that pristine audio quality.
#Home studio computer pro#
I have been to a live gig and watched a Mac Book pro crash, with the artist sinking to their knees. As long as they are quiet, powerful and stable all is fine. I can think of a million other things I would worry about in a home studio over my Dell PC.

Seriously guys, most PC's these days are so powerful and stable, that this really isn't an issue. If I got another one, I am sure it would be fine. So there are one or two users who have had issues with Dell? I use an HP laptop at work and have problems with it, but it wouldn't make me think anything negative of HP. Most Modern PC's can be used in a home studio. People talk and talk about professional PC's but what constitutes a professional PC? Processing Power? Stability, Quiet power supply? Lots of connectivity? Well, my Dell came with all of that, so I am at a loss as to what the Dell bashing is all about. I used to build my own PC's for my studio, but Dell brought it in at such a price, that it ended up easier to buy it from them than build another one. Why wouldn't it be? I know PC's are the heart of most home studios, but there isn't much to them!! Loaded it up with 3 of my old UAD-1 cards, a UAD-2 Quad card a and a TC Powercore MKII card and all is fine. I purchased a Quad core computer from Dell with 4gb Memory and two screens for under £800. Sometimes, some of the stuff I read on here!!!

I strongly believe that today, in year 2011, any, and I mean ANY computer is a sufficient home studio computer.Exactly.
